There were many different companies that were created by Edison after the final product of the light bulb and its power supply. Each of his several smaller companies did a unique part of the process of selling the product, but all of them were individual businesses.
Edison General Electric Company - Was the product of the different companies combined into each other. This made all of the sections easier to manage having them all together. It was the father company.
Edison Company for Isolated Lighting - Gave power to the smaller homes and made sure that they had outlets and appropriate equipment.
Edison Electric Illuminating Company of New York - Opened different plants around New York so that it was possible to reach more clients.
Edison Electric Light Company - Financially supported the other companies but owned all of the patents for the various products.
Bergmann & Company - Manufactured all of the electrical parts for Edison General Electric after they merged and became part of Edison General Electric.
Edison Lamp Company - Manufactured lamps for the Edison Electric System.
Edison Machine Works - Manufactured the dynamos and electric motors that ran the electric systems.
Those were some of the companies that were opened to produce as much as possible. Each company had a part of the business that was important. In 1889, most of these companies were merged into Edison General Electric, or their duties were picked up by a different company that took them over.
